Growing sweet potatoes starts with growing the soil

Growing sweet potatoes starts with growing the soil

The quality of Beniharuka is greatly affected by the soil.
In order to improve the soil's aeration and make it fluffy, we add crab shells and shellfish fossils to the fields immediately after harvesting and repeatedly till the soil.
We then use our own organic fertilizer, which is made up of more than 50% organic matter, on this prepared base. We spare no effort in preparing the soil in order to grow delicious Beniharuka.

Virus-free seedlings that bring out the full potential of Beniharuka

Virus-free seedlings that bring out the full potential of Beniharuka

All Beniharuka grown in the fields owned by Minamihashi Trading are grown using virus-free seedlings that have been cultivated in a sterile environment.
Virus-free seedlings not only prevent disease, but also bring out the inherent potential of the crop.
Beniharuka grown using virus-free seedlings have a beautiful color and a good shape, with a smooth, long tail.
They also have a characteristic moist texture.

The Shirasu Plateau, ideal for sweet potato cultivation

When we think of Kagoshima, we think of the Shirasu Plateau, which is made from the volcanic ash of Mt. Sakurajima.

Sweet potatoes like a warm climate and well-drained soil, and the mineral-rich volcanic ash soil is ideal for them.
Our Beniharuka is cultivated in the magnificent natural surroundings overlooking Kinko Bay, which has all of these conditions.

Ripening techniques to bring out the sweetness

Ripening techniques to bring out the sweetness

By allowing sweet potatoes to ripening after harvesting, the starch is converted into sugar, increasing the sweetness.
At Minamihashi Trading, we bring out the sweetness by allowing the sweet potatoes to ripening for over 50 days in a suitably controlled temperature and humidity environment.

Snacks made from sweet potatoes alone.

Our snacks contain no additives.
We have created three snacks - “Marugoto”, “Sittori” and “Sakusaku” - using sweet potatoes that have been aged for a long time to bring out their sweetness to the maximum extent.
Although the texture and taste differ, what they all have in common is the natural taste of “sweet potatoes themselves”.
